DESCRIPTION
Coreopsis is a perennial plant that also re-seeds. The common name for one of the species plant is "Eared Coreopsis" which describes the ear-like lobes at the base of the leaves. The "Lance-leaf" Coreopsis (Coreopsis lanceolata), as seen in Desoto State Park has a similar appearance. The yellow ray flowers are about 1 1/2 inches in diameter and have darker yellow centers. The rays are notched at the tips. These plants grow in the margins of wooded areas. They may also be seen at the Huntsville Botanical Garden and many other places. Coreopsis is usually included in Highway Department median plantings.
Seed and be purchased at garden centers. Coreopsis seed is usually included in wildflower seed mixtures.
