The purple coneflower is a tall plant growing to 4 feet in height. It is a perennial. The leaves are rough and grow at the bottom part of the long stem. Each stem has only one flower. The dark colored bristly center contains sterile disk flowers. Around the central disk, are numerous light purple ray flowers. The diameter of the complete flower head is about 3 inches. The ray flowers produce winged seeds.
Seed can be purchased from garden centers or catalogs.
