DESCRIPTION

This plant is rare and needs to be left alone in the few places it is surviving. The plant belongs to the orchid family. Yellow Lady's Slipper has more upright leaves than its pink cousin Cypripedium acule.

UPDATE: From Chuck McCartney, former editor of American Orchid Society: "The name Cypripedium calceolus is now considered to belong to a Eurasian species. Most of the yellow species, at least in eastern North America, are now considered Cypripedium parviflorum var. parviflorum (the Small Yellow Lady's Slipper) or Cypripedium parviflorum var. pubescens (the Large Yellow Lady's Slipper, the species more common in the Southeast)."
